Abstract

This article examines the historical influence of Islam on the political dynamics of North Africa, focusing on the intersection between religion and politics in shaping the region’s governance structures. The study traces the development of Islamic political thought from the early Islamic empires through colonialism and independence movements in countries like Egypt, Algeria, and Tunisia. The paper explores how Islamic political ideologies, including the rise of political Islam and Islamist parties, have played a central role in shaping modern political landscapes in the region. Special attention is given to the Arab Spring uprisings of 2011, where Islamic political groups became pivotal in overthrowing long-standing dictatorships. By analyzing key political movements, the research highlights how Islam continues to influence political identities, social movements, and governance in North Africa. The article concludes by considering the challenges of integrating Islamic thought with democratic values and the future of political Islam in the region.
