Abstract

Cryptocurrencies are digital currencies traded online. They rely on cryptography and blockchain technology to secure and record transactions. They are usually not issued by a central bank, but operate in a decentralized manner. The most famous examples are Bitcoin and Ethereum.

They are characterized by fast transfers and easy global trading, but they also involve significant risks due to their price volatility and the possibility of being used in illegal activities such as money laundering and tax evasion. For this reason, countries differ in their positions toward them, ranging from recognition and regulation to restriction or prohibition.

Therefore, cryptocurrencies represent an important development in the financial field, but they require a clear legal framework to protect users and limit their risks.
