Abstract

This article examines the enduring legacy of colonialism in Africa, with a focus on its economic and social consequences. The study explores how European powers exploited Africa’s natural resources, manipulated trade systems, and created economic structures that primarily served colonial interests. The paper analyzes the social impact of colonial rule, including the disruption of indigenous political systems, forced labor, and the imposition of European cultural values. Through case studies of countries like Ghana, Nigeria, and Kenya, the article highlights how colonial policies contributed to the development of modern African economies and political structures, often leading to inequalities that persist today. The research also explores the process of decolonization and the challenges newly independent African nations faced in addressing the legacies of colonialism. The study concludes by reflecting on the long-term effects of colonialism on African development, identity, and governance.
