Abstract

This article investigates the role of Chinese revolutionaries in exile during the early 20th century and their contributions to the nationalist movements that eventually led to the fall of the Qing Dynasty and the establishment of the Republic of China. The study focuses on key figures such as Sun Yat-sen, who spent significant portions of his life organizing and fundraising among the Chinese diaspora in Southeast Asia, the United States, and Japan. By examining the activities of Chinese revolutionary societies like the Tongmenghui, the article highlights the significance of transnational networks in advancing the cause of Chinese nationalism. The research draws on archival sources, personal letters, and historical accounts to explore how the Chinese diaspora became a critical source of financial support, political activism, and international legitimacy for revolutionary forces inside China. The article also discusses the broader impact of the diaspora on shaping the political culture of early 20th-century China and its legacy in modern Chinese society.
