The Role of Colonialism in Shaping Modern Political Structures in India
Main Article Content
Abstract
This article examines the role of British colonialism in shaping the political structures of modern India. The study explores how the British colonial administration implemented policies of centralized control, economic exploitation, and social division, which laid the foundation for India’s post-independence political landscape. The paper analyzes the introduction of British legal, administrative, and educational systems, which had long-lasting effects on India’s governance structure. It also looks at the development of political movements and the struggle for independence, with a particular focus on the Indian National Congress and the role of figures like Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru, and Sardar Patel. By exploring colonial policies and their impact on India’s socio-political fabric, the paper assesses how India’s political structures were both shaped by colonialism and redefined in the process of independence. The research concludes by reflecting on the challenges of nation-building in post-colonial India and the continued influence of colonial legacies in contemporary politics.
