Abstract
This article explores the influence of the Enlightenment on the development of political thought in Europe, particularly in shaping ideas about liberty, equality, and democracy. The study analyzes key figures such as Immanuel Kant, John Locke, and Jean-Jacques Rousseau, whose writings laid the philosophical foundations for modern liberalism and democratic governance. The paper examines how Enlightenment thinkers challenged the traditional authority of monarchies and the church, advocating for rationality, individual rights, and the separation of powers. By analyzing the political and philosophical legacies of the Enlightenment, the research highlights its direct influence on key political events such as the French Revolution and the American Revolution.
