Abstract

  • The Sino-Soviet split, one of the most pivotal events of the Cold War, drastically altered the geopolitical dynamics of Asia and the broader international community. This article provides a comprehensive historical analysis of the split, examining the ideological and political rifts between the two communist giants during the 1950s and 1960s. By analyzing Soviet and Chinese diplomatic archives, the paper traces the evolution of their relationship, from initial cooperation to sharp antagonism, which significantly influenced Asian and global geopolitics. The research explores the impact of the split on countries within the Soviet sphere, particularly in Eastern Europe, and on China’s foreign policy toward Asia. Additionally, the study examines the influence of the split on Korea’s division, Vietnam’s struggle for independence, and the broader communist movements in Southeast Asia. The paper concludes by discussing the long-lasting consequences of the Sino-Soviet split on regional alignments and China’s increasing pursuit of an independent foreign policy that would eventually lead to its rapprochement with the United States.
