Genre Hybridity and the Construction of Novelistic Discourse :A Linguistic-Literary Approach to Harisat al-Zilal By Waciny Laredj
Main Article Content
Abstract
This study examines the phenomenon of genre hybridity and its role in the construction of novelistic discourse in Harisat al-Zilal (The Keeper of the Shadows) by Waciny Laredj. It explores how the novel interacts with dramatic discourse by incorporating theatrical techniques, including internal and external dialogue as well as dramatic scenes. The study adopts a descriptive-analytical approach, drawing on concepts from textual linguistics and discourse analysis to investigate the narrative text. The findings reveal that genre hybridity contributes to the construction of a polyphonic and dynamic narrative discourse, enabling the novel to transcend the conventional boundaries of literary genres while enriching its aesthetic and semantic dimensions. The study further demonstrates the capacity of the contemporary Arabic novel to assimilate diverse expressive modes within an integrated discursive framework.
