Abstract

Food security is a crucial issue facing many developing countries, with millions of people struggling to access the food they need to survive. In these countries, small-scale farmers play a critical role in ensuring that communities have access to the food they need. Small-scale farmers are often family-based and operate on a small scale, typically cultivating less than five hectares of land. Despite their modest size, these farmers produce a significant portion of the food that is consumed locally, making them essential to the food security of their communities. Small-scale farmers face many challenges, including limited access to resources such as land, water, and credit, as well as volatile weather patterns, pests, and diseases. Despite these challenges, they have developed innovative techniques to maximize their crop yields, often using traditional farming practices that are well-suited to local conditions.
